Grass Cutting -
It will take one month of your time but you'll see the dividends from paying a little attention to your lawn. When you mow your lawn the right way, you can expect a greener lawn, reduced weeds and disease, reduced water, less time expended and better curb appeal.
1. Increase height of cut to 3" or more. No lower than 2.5". Cutting your lawn shorter does not increase time between mows. It opens up the soil to more sun and allows weeds to germinate and grow. Weeds grow faster than grass so you cut more anyway. Longer grass means better health, color, weed control and drought resistance.
2. Keep mower blades sharp: Dull blades shred tips and give overall white appearance to grass.
3. Water your lawn only once a week. And only in the evening hours. Get a can, and make a mark on it about 1 inch above the bottom. Put this can out, whenever you water the lawn. When the water in the can reaches the mark, you are done. Watering this way, develops deep roots in the grass. You will water less, and have stronger grass that is very resistant to the hot days of summer.
